Previous Design Work
Here are some of my older and smaller projects. These are a mixture of academic assignments and fun personal projects. I like to show some of my older work so that I can illustrate how I have grown and evolved over the years.
Leaf
This is a digitization of a sketch that I made of a branch of leaves. This was a personal challenge to practice working with digitizing hand-drawn elements.
Sweet Sammy's
This was a pamphlet/ booklet assignment for a design class in college. We were told to make an informational document for a bakery called Sweet Sammy’s.
Colors
I wanted the colors to reflect the baked goods that this bakery might offer. I was inspired by the photo of the glazed lemon cake and used yellow, black, and transparent white to create a cohesive look.
Final Touches
I used this blueberry blue for the text on this last page for a more complementary look. I added an illustration of a blueberry and a lemon to keep the fresh, edible, vibe going even on this more simple page.
Blacksburg and a Radish
This was a personal project. I wanted to make a design that could be used as a sticker or on a shirt. I used a drawing I did of a radish and some digitized handwriting to create this design.
Business Card
This was a business card I made for an assignment in college (featuring my maiden name, I might add). I went through many iterations of this card as I find it difficult to design for myself. What I enjoy about the design process is helping people solve problems and working collaboratively, so designing something for myself, by myself was a good challenge for me.
Coffee Icons
These elements were a project I worked on when I worked at Holy Grounds Cafe. These were intended to be used for social media to help customers learn more about our drinks.
Piglet
This was one of my first attempts at digitizing hand-drawn art. I was exploring how I could use my hand-drawn style in a digital context. This project helped me distinguish what makes something design and what makes something art. This image serves no purpose except to be cute, so I would categorize it as art. If you were to use the piglet in a logo or add a wordmark, it would be more along the lines of design.
Lemon Mockup
I really liked the lemon and blueberry illustrations I did for the Sweet Sammy’s project, so I was exploring how I could repurpose them. I ended up making a pattern with the illustrations and I decided to use it to make this backpack mockup.
