Gouache Studies
Painting helps me explore the relationship between shapes, color, and composition which then helps inform my decisions when practicing visual design.
Skull Study
In this study, I wanted to achieve the look of a monochromatic skull, but I liked the depth and drama that happens when using red underneath a painting.
Candle Study
I painted this study because I really like how my candle looked as it was burning, but my camera wouldn’t capture it the way I was seeing it so I painted it instead.
The Cleaver
In this painting, I wanted to capture the feeling of making dinner in a not-so-glamorous kitchen. For many of us, cooking entails crowed messes and harsh lighting, which is what I wanted to capture.
Whiskey Decanter
I painted this because I had just thrifted this decanter and I really liked how the whiskey looked in it. I also thought that painting the contours and reflections in the glass would be a good challenge to work on.
We Met in Chinatown
This is a painting of a photograph I took of my friend Angel in Chinatown, NYC when we were in photography club together. I had really liked this photo so I decided to paint it, too. This painting won the Graduate Award of Distinction at the Spring 2021 Super Duper Juried Student Show at Radford University.
Gunlocke
Here I wanted to tell a story. The light is on because someone was just sitting here, maybe they are now just out of frame. This is the middle of a conversation. I also wanted to include my favorite chair in a painting. It is a vintage Gunlocke chair that I thrifted for $10.
Trumpet
In this study, I wanted to challenge myself to paint a metallic, reflective surface. I hadn’t done this before and really enjoyed the process of studying this trumpet.
