Planet Plants is a series of botanical paintings inspired by planets. Using gouache, I tied together different forms of plant life with themes from four different planets: Earth, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus. Each painting is quite different, but they complement each other when displayed together.
This painting is inspired by the earth. The life and light in the leaf contrasted with the warm, bold background reminds me on my experience existing on this planet.
This painting was inspired by Mars. The yellow and red tones are reminiscent of the aura of the planet and the thin, twirling leaves and branches remind one of the fragile notion of life on Mars.
This painting references Jupiter. The peach and cream tones call back to Jupiter’s signature coloring. The large, gentle leaves are inspired by Jupiter’s size and grandiose.
This painting is inspired by the intensity of Venus. The vibrant colors of Venus are captured alongside alien-like leaves to illustrate a planetary composition.
